Named after one of the most prominent neighborhood streets of the composer’s childhood, “Pondlilly Song” takes the performers and listeners on a journey that ponders the intersection of childhood warmth and countryside nostalgia. Inspired by the likes of English-American and Celtic folk music, the work captures the combining of folklore with the sense of familiarity. This piece was particularly influenced by the thematic motives seen in works such as “Shenandoah,” “Loch Lomond,” and other folk ballads. From this, the rustic but emotional timbres of the string instruments are used to their full advantage in this lyrical manner.
