Bio

Jordan McMillan is a percussionist and composer based in Salt Lake City, Utah. He is currently finishing his undergraduate education through the University of Utah School of Music under the direction of Dr. James Micheal Sammons, Dr. Miguel Chuaqui, and Dr. Jessica Rudman, studying percussion performance and composition. He enjoys his time composing works and participating in ensembles at the U of U, such as the Utah Percussion Studio, Wind Ensemble, Utah Philharmonia, Pep Band, and Drumline– with involvement in leadership roles in each group.

Jordan has received multiple recognitions through his work in the school of music as a performer and composer. He was the principal percussionist and timpanist for the U of U Wind Ensemble during the University of Utah’s hosting of the 2025 International Trumpet Guild, where the group performed on the international stage and included the world premier of Omar Thomas’ "Metatron's Cube” for wind ensemble and trumpet soloist. After growing his interests in coaching music, Jordan additionally became the Front Ensemble Director at Bingham High School in 2023, helping mentor students and developing fall marching band and indoor drumline shows. Other performance events and convention appearances include the Parade of Roses, The Rose Bowl, The Las Vegas Bowl, Bands of America Western Regional Conference, PASIC, PAS, IMPA, and UMEA.

His work as a composer has led to the premiere of many of his pieces through the School of Music, exploring different stylizations and groups with each new piece and gaining more and more interest. Playing and composing in the pep, orchestral, soloist, and jazz settings as a student and freelance musician, Jordan is constantly looking for ways to explore the world of performing, writing, and coaching music. Between attending classes, rehearsals, and performances, he enjoys working with students and helping expand their experiences as developing musicians and team players.
